Well, it has been almost 6 months since I started this journey and the changes that have happened both physically and otherwise has been amazing. I have always said that if you looked at our life in 5 or 10 year blocks you could never predict (for all our planning and worrying) where you will be at. That is certainly true in my case given just 6 months.
Let’s back up a little. I am happy to report that I have lost another 2 lbs with this weigh-in and now am at 202 lbs and have lost 27 lbs in total since starting. Getting very close to the sub-200 lb mark. I have been extremely busy, but no matter how busy I get I seem to always now find time to get in a workout. I suspect the time has always been there I just had never given working-out the priority it requires. Now, for instance next week, I have a working group that starts and ends late. So, I have change my workouts to the morning for next week. Basically, I look at my week and workout when and what I will do the for week. Sometimes in the morning, sometimes in the evening. Sometimes I have switch my off-day around. Whatever works. But I make sure that I find the time, it is not the first thing to go. In fact, it is near the last thing I will take of the list of things to do for the day. Try it, it will make all the difference and in my thinking that would be my definition of “paying yourself first”.
Eating healthy has been very easy. I mean that, it really has. When you put so much effort into making sure you get your workout in, and of course the workouts themselves demand a lot of effort. You really are not interested in sabotaging that. Otherwise, well you are truly wasting your valuable time. I am so into the workout at this point. I have a great weight-training program and now when I run I typically am doing between 7-10 km each time. So, I am very conscious of what and when I eat. However, I do have Friday nights set aside as family night. We eat out and I don’t worry about what I have. I don’t overeat. But, I will order whatever takes my fancy on the menu. I think I have found a balance that works. But that balance is closely linked to a strict exercise regimen. I don’t think anything else works. You have got to decide you will be an athlete!
Some other changes that have taken place around here in the last six months is the site itself. I think I am on the 4th iteration of this site and I finally have one that I think will last awhile. I really like this look and I hope you do to. I originally started this blog to tie in my weight-loss with my work. I wanted to explore all the Web 2.0 stuff and this gave me a forum to play and keep me motivated as I lost weight. Both have been a fantastic success. I have certainly become very Web 2.0 savvy, and work-wise I am now in charge of implementing a new Web 2.0 project. I am very excited about that!
Lastly, I have launched a new site called Google Wave Blogger. It is Web 2.0 on steroids and I am really excited about how that is coming along. So you see, you don’t have to look 5 or 10 years back. Just look back six months and see if you are in the same place as you were then or even remotely close. One thing that has suffered in the last month is my videos. I will have a new one for next week, I promise. They really do take so much time, but I will find it for next week.
Oh, I almost forget. By way of promoting my new site, Google Wave Blogger , I have a big promotion. We have a 32 GB iPod Touch Giveaway contest going on for the rest of this month. Contest ends 1 Oct. All you need to do is follow @GoogleWaveBlogg , tweet the message provided and then leave a comment (any comment) on a post (any post). That’s it, you would then be entered. I hope you enter and I wish you good luck!
