New Year’s Resolution

On December 31, 2009, in Weekly Wrap-Up, by The Fat Geek

Well, 2009 is coming quickly to a close. 2009 has been a little bit of a roller-coaster ride here at The Fat Geek. I started off so strong back in April and was really doing great until around July. Over that 4 months I had lost close to 30 lbs and was riding high and feeling pretty cocky. Then came vacation.

At the time (July) I talked about how everybody wanted to have a good time, so I ate and drank with abandon as to not make anybody feel uncomfortable…What bullshit! I felt like I needed a reward and that I could get away with it. I didn’t exercise the whole time, which would have been acceptable if I had not be eating desert with every meal: breakfast, lunch and supper. Then when our guests got held over another week because of illness it meant that I had stopped everything for a good month. As everybody trying to lose weight and/or lifting weights will know that is lifetime to take off. Basically, I would be starting all over with the weights again…the pain of the first week was not something I was looking forward to again, so I tried to find other exercises. Not so demanding stuff, not every day. Then, not every second day. Then, just too busy.

Oh, I would sporadically try to get back into the swing of it. I would talk about the difficulty finding time for any routine. Bottom line was that I was losing interest. I had another blog and business opportunity. My site The Shiny Wave (all about Google Wave) was really taking off and actually earning revenue. I was being paid for speaking engagements on the subject and I was really excited. The Fat Geek was seriously concentrating on the Geek part.

Unfortunately, all that time the pounds I had worked so hard to take off started creeping back on. I stand today at 217 lbs. I gained back 15 of the 28 lbs I lost. More than half. Very disappointing and so hard to admit openly on the site. But all is not lost…I must stay positive and look at the positive…I have lost 13 lbs and I intend to lose more going forward in the New Year.

The Shiny Wave is still very successful and I am proud of that. I will have more going on the New Year with “Google Wave” and am excited about that. However, I have to make my health a priority. I have to find time to workout everyday. I have to eat healthy everyday. Being busy is not an excuse not to exercise. The busier your are the more important it is to exercise.

They end of the year is the perfect time to take a breath, reflect and make changes going forward (we call them resolutions). Mine is to get healthy again and stay that way throughout the entire year. Not just for a couple of months at a time. Keep watching this site….the journey continues and we keep learning more and more.
